Charts of all consecutive patients undergoing bariatric surgery during the first 18 months (2009–2011) of our multidisciplinary bariatric surgery program at a tertiary care centre in Toronto, Ontario, were retrospectively reviewed. Demographic data, psychiatric diagnoses and presentation for follow-up at routine 3- and 6-month appointments were tabulated. Excellent short-term follow-up can be achieved in a multidisciplinary program with a rigorous preoperative emphasis on patient education, psychosocial assessment and support.
